One of the highlights of this research visit in Chile was an intensive workshop led by Pedro, an expert in mycelium-based composites, whose works can be seen here: https://www.instagram.com/tallerpercan?igsh=Z3RlbWYwNWprYnlu.
During the workshop, the entire process of cultivating mycelium and creating composites from scratch – from growing the fungal mycelium to shaping and drying the final biomaterial was explained. This hands-on experience was not only inspiring, but also incredibly valuable for our joint research, on bio-based materials applications.
Pedro’s approach combines scientific knowledge with an artistic sensibility, making the process both rigorous and creative. We are now in the early stages of developing a collaborative research project that will bring together our expertise to further investigate the potential of mycelium composites.
This workshop marks the beginning of what We hope will be a fruitful and innovative collaboration.
