Category: Bioinspired Architecture
16–18 September 2025, Central European Summer Time

Anna Lewandowska, together with Agata Bonenberg (Poznań University of Technology) and Gabriel Felmer (University of Chile), took part in The 2nd International Online Conference on Biomimetics, presenting a poster and abstract of the study titled:

“Paradigmatic Shift in Perception of Beauty in Architecture and Design: Mycelium-Based Composites Case Study”

available online at: https://sciforum.net/paper/view/23797

The study explores the ongoing transformation in architectural aesthetics in response to ecological awareness and climate change. It highlights mycelium-based composites (MBCs) as sustainable, biodegradable materials that challenge traditional ideals of beauty by emphasizing impermanence, organic texture, and regenerative design.

By combining theoretical perspectives on sustainable aesthetics and biophilic design with case study analysis, the research demonstrates how materials like mycelium can redefine architectural beauty—shifting it toward ecological harmony and the natural cycles of growth and decay.

The abstract was published by MDPI in the Bioinspired Architecture session, with Academic Editor: Andrew Adamatzky.
