Agata Bonenberg is a visionary architect, interior designer, and inventor whose professional journey began at the renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Genoa, where she gained invaluable experience before transitioning into academia. Her creative sensibility and research approach have been strongly influenced by high-tech aesthetics and ecological architecture—an influence evident in the projects she contributed to, including the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. She has pioneered research into innovative technical and compositional solutions, particularly the use of biomaterials in architectural interiors. Her work also includes the application of advanced tools and empirical methods—such as oculography—to test architectural theories. Since 2023, Prof. Bonenberg has been a member of the Council for Scientific Excellence, working within Team II for Engineering and Technical Sciences. Since 2020, she has served as Director of the Institute of Interior Design and Industrial Design at the Faculty of Architecture, Poznan University of Technology.
She is also an active member of the Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences, participating in the Climate and Environment Section, as well as the Committee on Ergonomics of the PAS, Poznan Branch. Her academic work is distinguished by its international reach. From 2014 to 2021, she was a professor at the Politecnico di Milano, and she is currently a visiting scholar at Jiaotong University in Chongqing, China. She has also collaborated with the Münster School of Architecture in Germany and initiated academic exchange with the University of Chile in Santiago. Additionally, she has completed research internships at the AA School of Architecture in London and attended seminars at Harvard University in the United States.
Prof. Bonenberg led the NCN-funded project “Media, Space, Architecture. Transformations of Information Society Spaces” and participated in the NCBiR project “New product lines supporting mobility and accessibility of the environment for seniors and people with disabilities.” She is the author of over 120 scientific publications, including the monograph “Cityscape in the Era of Information and Communication Technologies” (Springer International Publishing), as well as several patents and registered designs. As a mentor and educator,
she has supervised six PhD candidates who now hold academic positions at the Faculty of Architecture, PUT.
She has reviewed 18 doctoral dissertations, 13 habilitation theses, and three professorial nominations.
